oh, it is VERY HARD to be in solo or group practice nowadays - BTW many actually are. the otherheads, the collections, the no-shows, the hiring and firing and the .. stealing that goes on sometimes in a business where copay is cash, the enormous cost of equipment and staffing, the dishonesty of many senior partners re full partnership, the, the, the.....
plus there they might also see 30 patients a day, George. which is ridiculous. so... the tendency has been to shy away from teh "hang-the-shingle" model of the past - and into HMOs, PPOs, big clinics, and academia.
in academia we have the luxury of working less and in better conditions, but we are also paied about 1/2 of what we would get in a PPO or a big Clinic.
